Just a Girl is a British silent romance film from 1916 directed by Alexander Butler. It stars Owen Nares, Daisy Burrell, and Paul England, and was adapted by Harry Engholm from Charles Garvice’s 1895 novel of the same name. The story follows Esmeralda, an Australian heiress played by Burrell, who is courted by Lord Trafford, a money-strapped English noble. She refuses him and marries her true love, Norman Druce, a humble miner. A memorable on-location scene at Cheddar Gorge where Burrell had to fire a revolver while riding a pony nearly led to more filming that morning when the pony bucked and she clung on. The film was released in Sweden as Australiens vilda ros, with the subtitle Esmeralda, pride of the camp, and it premiered in Stockholm on 3 October 1917. It was produced by G.B. Samuelson Productions.
