Hazon Food Conference
The Hazon Food Conference is an annual gathering for farmers, chefs, global citizens, business and Jewish leaders to discuss food, health, and sustainability around the world. It is organized by Hazon, a Jewish nonprofit based in New York. The conference started in 2006 at the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center with 158 participants and now takes place in late December in Northern California. Attendance grew to 560 by 2008. The program includes speeches, panel discussions, hands-on workshops, cooking demonstrations, and other activities. Notable speakers and attendees have included Dan Barber, Andrew Kimbrell, Rabbi Morris Allen, and Rachel Biale. Topics cover growing your own food, Jewish food history and culture, food policy and creating a new food system, kosher meat, health and nutrition, and Israel’s food and agriculture.
