Harry Jerome Awards
The Harry Jerome Award is a Canadian honor given to Black Canadians, established in 1983. Named after Black Olympian and racial equity activist Harry Jerome, it is organized by the Black Business and Professional Association and presented at a ceremony in Toronto. The award is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honours in Canada’s Black communities. Notable winners include Tamar Huggins (2015), Andre De Grasse (2017), and Andria Case, Lindell Wigginton, and Ngozi Paul (2023). The 41st awards were held in 2023, with other recent honorees like Andria Case, Lindell Wigginton and Ngozi Paul. As of 2021, the award features several categories with age rules: Academics (16-24), Arts (24+), Athletics (16-24), Business (24+), Community Service (24+), Entertainment (24+), Health Sciences (24+), Media (24+), Professional Excellence (24+), and Young Entrepreneur (18-35).
