Harekrushna Mallick
Harekrushna Mallick (born 4 August 1931) is an Indian physician and educationist who served as a Rajya Sabha member representing Odisha from 1978 to 1984 as a Janata Party member. Born to Prankrushna and Pranalata Mallick in Odisha, he trained as a pathologist and was a gold medalist. He combined medicine with public service, focusing on rural development, public health, and education policy.
From 1974 to 1977 he was vice-president of the Orissa Congress (O), the INC(O) faction. After the Emergency, he joined the Janata Party and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1978, serving a six-year term. He was known as an articulate and thoughtful parliamentarian who spoke on many issues, including health, education, climate, and national policy, and he worked with leaders such as Biju Patnaik, Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, and Pranab Mukherjee.
His family includes his spouse Manasi Mallick and siblings Gopinath, Upendranath, Paramananda, and geophysicist Kumarendra Mallick. His grandson Abhishek Mahananda is a Congress politician from Odisha.
