Hang Ups (TV series)
Hang Ups is a British television sitcom co-written by and starring Stephen Mangan. It aired on Channel 4 from 8 August to 12 September 2018. The show is based on the American series Web Therapy.
Plot and cast
Stephen Mangan plays Dr Richard Pitt, a troubled therapist who begins offering rapid, webcam-based therapy sessions. The series features a large guest cast playing Richard’s patients, including Harry Lloyd, Sarah Hadland, Lolly Adefope, Monica Dolan, David Bradley, Jo Joyner, David Tennant, and Daisy Haggard.
Production details
The show is an improvisational comedy directed by Robert Delamare and written by Stephen Mangan and Robert Delamere. It is produced by Slam Films, with executive producers Kevin Loader and Stephen Mangan and producer Louise Delamere. The opening theme is "You’re Dreaming" by Wolf Parade, and the score is by Rael Jones. Hang Ups has one season consisting of six episodes.
Reception
Critics responded positively to the premiere. The Telegraph gave it five stars, calling it a “wonderfully ribald treat.” The Guardian also praised it as a UK adaptation that equals the quality of the US original, while the Daily Express commended its use of comedy to address mental health thoughtfully.
