HGTV Design Star Season 7 aired from May 29, 2012 to July 24, 2012 on HGTV. The season was hosted and mentored by David Bromstad. The winner was Danielle Colding, whose show Shop This Room premieres on August 4.

Contestants worked in six teams of two to design a great room, three bedrooms, a den, and a design studio and lounge. The remaining seven designers created small lounge areas for a Hollywood Chamber of Commerce party, with each lounge inspired by a different era in Hollywood design.

For the Camera Challenge, contestants had to speak to the event guests about their space. They also worked on different condos and appeared on The Talk. To reach the final challenge, the last three designers had to create a fantasy bedroom suite inside a yurt, working with a celebrity carpenter who was currently on a TV show. They filmed two camera challenges: one showing their interaction with the carpenter and a project update, and a second more general one about the space. In the final challenge, the last two designers had to pitch pilots for their own show.

Before the finale, the last four designers who were eliminated returned to join two teams. One team included Brittany and Danielle with their carpenters, while the other team included Mikel and Rachel with Brittany, and Hilari and Stanley with Danielle. Each team then worked with a real family to transform a dining and living room.

From May 1 to July 27, 2012, fans could vote up to ten times per day on HGTV Design Star’s website for an online show. On July 27, Brittany Simon was named the fan-favorite contestant, and her online show will premiere soon.
