Hoban Dominican High School
Hoban Dominican High School was a private Roman Catholic all-girls high school in Cleveland, Ohio. It opened in 1951 and closed in 1971 after the diocese decided to shut it down. The school had a 12 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio, with about 23 students per class; about 96% of students were Catholic and came from more than 70 parishes. In 1973, the campus was sold to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and became Whitney M. Young, going through a series of name changes (Whitney M. Young Middle School in 1973, then Whitney M. Young School, and later Whitney M. Young High School). After Hoban Dominican closed, St. Joseph Academy and Erieview Catholic remained the only area Catholic high schools for girls in Cleveland. Some original crosses still remain on the building.
