George Vance
George Oakley Vance (25 May 1828 – 1910) was the Dean of Melbourne from 1894 until his death. He was the son of William Ford Vance, the vicar of Coseley. Born in London, he was educated at King’s College School, London, and Lincoln College, Oxford. He emigrated to Australia and was ordained in 1854 by Charles Perry, the Bishop of Melbourne. After serving as a curate in Melbourne and Geelong, he became headmaster of Geelong Grammar School. He later served as parish priest in Chewton, Kyneton, Richmond and Kew.
