Love Scenes (Beverley Craven album)
Love Scenes is the second studio album by British singer Beverley Craven. It was released on 27 September 1993 by Epic Records and produced by Paul Samwell-Smith. Guitar legend Jeff Beck plays on three tracks.
Craven began writing new songs for this album while she was touring after her first album. Epic wanted a follow-up to keep her momentum going. She postponed the release while she looked after her baby daughter Mollie in early 1992, and the album finally came out in September 1993.
Craven wrote most of the songs herself. The track "Love Is the Light" was co-written with her husband Colin Campsie, the only time she collaborated on writing a song. Some songs had appeared earlier on Craven’s live video Memories (1992), and the tracks "Feels Like the First Time" and "Look No Further" had been released as B-sides from her debut singles. The album also includes a cover of ABBA’s "The Winner Takes It All," created for an unreleased ABBA tribute project. It was released on vinyl, CD and MiniDisc.
Love Scenes reached number 4 on the UK Albums Chart and stayed on the chart for three months. It earned a Gold certification and a Brit Award nomination for Best British Female Artist in 1994. Three singles were released from the album, but only the title track "Love Scenes" made the UK Top 40.
critic Ian Gilby of Sound on Sound described the album as a collection of quintessential English ballads that echo the feel of her first release. All tracks were written by Beverley Craven, except where noted.
