Gajdobra
Gajdobra is a village in Serbia, located in the Bačka Palanka municipality in the South Bačka District, within the province of Vojvodina. It covers about 24.8 square kilometers and sits about 91 meters above sea level. In 2011, 2,578 people lived there, mostly ethnic Serbs.
Archaeologists say people have lived in Gajdobra since the Neolithic era. In the Middle Ages the village was important because it lay on a route to Bač. It was mentioned as Dobra in 1464, and later as Gajdobra; in the 16th century two other villages, Gornja Dobra (Upper Dobra) and Donja Dobra (Lower Dobra), were also noted. The village was empty in 1698, but Serbs returned in 1702, and Germans settled there in 1763. A small church was built in 1767, and a Roman Catholic church followed in 1791 (rebuilt in 1897) and still exists today. The name Dobra means "the good place" in Slavic.
Population changes over time: 1991 had 3,171 residents, 2002 had 2,968, and 2011 had 2,578.
