Fritz Nagy
Frederick Karl “Fritz” Nagy (January 3, 1924 – June 5, 1989) was an American professional basketball player from Akron, Ohio. He played high school basketball at South High School in Akron, then briefly attended the University of North Carolina (1942–43), where he led the Southern Conference with 201 points. He transferred to the University of Akron and played for the Zips from 1943 to 1947.
Nagy was 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighed 185 pounds, and played as a small forward and shooting guard, wearing number 33. In 1947, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Ironmen in the BAA draft. He played professionally for the Chicago American Gears (1947) and for the Indianapolis Kautskys / Jets (1948–49) in the Basketball Association of America, with later stints for the Grand Rapids Hornets (1950–51).
Career highlights include a second-team All-American selection by SN in 1945. Over his BAA/early pro career, Nagy totaled 253 points (5.1 ppg) and 68 assists (1.4 apg).
Fritz Nagy passed away in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on June 5, 1989, at the age of 65.
