Hemiphractus bubalus
Hemiphractus bubalus, commonly known as the Ecuador horned tree frog, is a vulnerable species of frog in the family Hemiphractidae. It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List (IUCN 3.1). It was described in 1870 by Jiménez de la Espada and has had several scientific names, including Cerathyla bubalus.
This frog lives in the upper Amazon Basin and the lower Amazonian slopes of the Andes in northern Peru, Ecuador, and southern Colombia (Cordillera Oriental in Caquetá and Putumayo). Its natural habitat is dense cloud forest. It usually perches on branches of bushes and small trees. It is thought to prey on other frogs. The species is sensitive to habitat modification and is threatened by habitat loss.
