French ship Romulus (1812)
Romulus was a 74‑gun ship of the line of the French Navy, part of the Téméraire class. Built at Toulon, it was ordered in 1810, named in July 1810, and launched on 31 May 1812, with completion in September 1812. The ship was about 55.9 meters long, 14.5 meters wide, and had a depth of hold of 7.15 meters, displacing around 3,069 tonnage (1,537 port ton). It carried a crew of about 705 men and had three masts.
Its main guns were 28 × 36-pounders on the lower deck and 30 × 18-pounders on the upper deck, with lighter guns on the forecastle and quarterdeck. Armament on the upper decks varied, including 8-pounders and 36-pounder carronades.
In February 1814, under Captain Rolland, Romulus sailed from Toulon to Genoa as part of a division led by Julien Cosmao. On 13 February, she was engaged by three British ships of the line, notably HMS Boyne and HMS Caledonia, but she escaped by steering close to the coast back to Toulon.
In 1821 the ship was razed into a frigate and renamed Guerrière. She was broken up in 1830.
