Frederick Purser

Frederick Purser (1839–30 January 1910) was an Irish mathematician, author, and member of the Royal Irish Academy. He was the younger brother of the mathematician John Purser. Born in Dublin, he attended a boarding school run by his uncle Richard Biggs in Wiltshire, England, before studying at Trinity College Dublin, where he was a Scholar in 1859, earned a BA in 1860, and an MA in 1864. He was elected a Fellow of Trinity College in 1879. In 1902 he was appointed Professor of Natural Philosophy and held the post until his death in 1910. He contributed articles to the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica.
