Fred Rogers (speedway rider)

Fred Rogers (1 January 1929 – November 2001) was an English motorcycle speedway rider from Sheffield. He rode for England once.

He began his British league career in 1947 with the Odsal Boomerangs, and on his debut he scored three points in front of 17,784 fans. In 1948 he rode for Newcastle Diamonds (Division 2) and Yarmouth Bloaters (Division 3) before joining the Norwich Stars, where he rode from 1948 to 1954.

Rogers’ best average was 8.38 in 1951. He helped Norwich win the Division 2 league title in 1950, and in 1951 the team won both the league and the National Trophy, along with the Southern Shield.

He retired after 1954 but came back in 1955 to ride for the Belle Vue Aces, staying with them into 1956. Fred Rogers died in November 2001, aged 72.
