Florida State University Panama City
Florida State University Panama City (FSU Panama City) is part of Florida State University. Established in 1982, it serves about 4,000 students with 20 bachelor’s and nine graduate programs on campus and online. It is accredited by SACSCOC and sits on 28 acres at 4750 Collegiate Drive, Panama City, FL 32405.
FSU Panama City is located about 100 miles from the main FSU campus in Tallahassee.
History in brief
- In the early 1970s, local groups pushed for a four-year campus in Bay County.
- 1972: The State directed the University of West Florida to open a Panama City center; classes began with 65 elementary education students.
- 1976–1981: Land and buildings were donated or purchased for the center.
- 1982: FSU took over administration; the campus opened with 531 students and 11 degree programs.
- 1983–1987: Phase I construction, new facilities opened, and the campus grew to 28 acres.
- 2000: A new conference center was completed.
- 2012–2013: A four-year academic plan allowed freshman entry; the first freshman class arrived in 2013.
Growth and programs
- Since 2016, the campus expanded to include bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering, hospitality management, commercial entrepreneurship, public health, and financial planning, plus graduate programs in law enforcement intelligence, organizational management and communication, and systems engineering. The nurse anesthesia degree became a Doctorate.
- FSU Panama City offers undergraduate and graduate certificates in Underwater Crime Scene Investigation, a unique program in the country.
- A student housing complex was added to serve both FSU and Gulf Coast State College students.
