Florida State College at Jacksonville
Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) is a public college in Jacksonville, Florida. It’s part of the Florida College System and offers associate and bachelor’s degree programs, along with strong dual enrollment and early college options for high school students.
History: The college opened in 1965 as Florida Junior College. It was renamed Florida Community College at Jacksonville in 1986. In 2009, the state allowed some colleges to offer bachelor’s degrees, and FCCJ became Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Campus and size: FSCJ operates several campuses around Jacksonville. It serves about 20,000 undergraduate students (Fall 2022). The endowment is $28.5 million (2024) and the annual budget is $148.1 million (2024). The president is John Avendano. The college has 327 full-time and 540 part-time academic staff. Its motto is Libertas (Freedom).
Former names: Florida Junior College (1965–1986) and Florida Community College at Jacksonville (1986–2009). Accreditation: SACSE.
Athletics: FSCJ’s teams are the Manta Rays, with colors cyan and black. The mascot is Razor Ray the Manta Ray. The college competes in the NJCAA Region 8 – Mid-Florida Conference, under the Florida State College Activities Association. Sports include men’s and women’s cross country, volleyball, softball, basketball and baseball.
