Floriade (Netherlands)
Floriade is a major international garden festival held in the Netherlands every ten years. It is part of the World Horticultural Expositions and is recognized by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) and the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The most recent Floriade was in 2022, held in Almere and called Floriade 2022.
History
- Before Floriade, Dutch flower shows called Flora Exhibitions were held in Groenendaal Park, Heemstede (1925, 1935, 1953) and in Haarlemmerhout, Haarlem (1910).
- The first Floriade took place in Rotterdam at Het Park, where the Euromast tower was built to mark the event.
- The festival is organized by the Dutch Horticultural Council, founded in 1908. The location of each Floriade was decided through a bidding process.
