Fission Uranium Corp. is a public uranium exploration company based in Kelowna, British Columbia. Founded in 2013 by Dev Randhawa, it focuses on the Patterson Lake South (PLS) project in Canada’s Athabasca Basin. In December 2024, Paladin Energy announced it had acquired full control of Fission Uranium.

The company is led by Ross E. McElroy, who serves as chairman and CEO. Fission’s roots go back to Strathmore Minerals, which created Fission Energy Corp in 2008. Under Randhawa, the team discovered the J Zone at Waterbury Lake and later found the PLS deposit in 2012. Fission Uranium split from Fission Energy in 2013 as part of a deal with Denison Mines that left PLS with Fission.

In January 2015, Fission Uranium reported a major resource estimate for PLS, at the time the largest undeveloped resource in the Athabasca Basin. In fall 2015, a merger with Denison Mines faced opposition from some shareholders, but the proxy fight failed and the current board retained control.

In January 2016, CGN Mining of Hong Kong acquired 19.9% of Fission and agreed to purchase up to 35% of PLS production for $82 million, at a price of $0.85 per share. The PLS project hosts the Triple R uranium deposit on roughly 30,000 hectares, about 550 kilometers north-northwest of Prince Albert and 150 kilometers north of La Loche, inside the Boreal Shield Ecozone.

During 2016 and 2017, Fission expanded near-surface high-grade zones at PLS and extended the mineralized trend to more than 3 kilometers. The project sits on traditional lands of the Clearwater River Dene Nation, which did not support the project in 2021. The company and its teams have earned several industry awards, including Northern Miner’s Mining Person(s) of the Year (2013), PDAC’s Bill Dennis Award (2014), and Mining Journal’s Exploration of the Year (2015).
