Ferdinand Christoffel "Ferry" Breedveld, born 18 April 1950 in The Hague, is a Dutch rheumatologist. He earned his PhD at Leiden University in 1985, with a dissertation on Felty syndrome. From 1991 to 2015 he was a professor of internal medicine, specializing in rheumatology, at Leiden University. He chaired the board of Leiden University Medical Center from 2006 to 2015. In 2009 the hospital announced plans to cut about 660 jobs over the next three years. Breedveld was President of the European League Against Rheumatism from 2007 to 2009. In September 2015 he became chair of the supervisory board of Nij Smellinghe hospital. He was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2003. In November 2015, after leaving Leiden University Medical Center, he was knighted as a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion for his scientific contributions, and in the same week he was named a Master by the American College of Rheumatology.
