Nettby.no, or Web City, was Norway’s second-largest online community after Facebook, with about 980,000 profiles in 2009. It started on September 14, 2006 and was owned by VG Multimedia AS and Nettby Community Holding AS. Users joined with nicknames, and profiles were visible to everyone. Each user’s “community” was linked to their listed city or region, with Trondheim being the largest at over 36,000 residents. The site closed on December 19, 2010.
