Fenwick Island (Delaware–Maryland)
Fenwick Island is a narrow barrier island on the Atlantic coast of the United States, located in Delaware and Maryland. It includes the Delaware towns of South Bethany and Fenwick Island and the Maryland town of Ocean City. In 1933, a hurricane opened a permanent inlet between Fenwick Island and Assateague Island to the south, separating the two landforms. The Assawoman Canal, completed in 1891 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, runs between the island and the mainland, helping keep Fenwick Island separated from the mainland.
