Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium
Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, also known as Le Félicia, is a multi‑purpose stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. It is located in the Le Plateau area and owned by the government. The stadium can hold about 33,000 spectators. The field is 105 by 68 meters with a grass surface.
Built in 1952 and opened in 1964, it was first called Stade Géo André and later renamed after Ivory Coast’s first president, Félix Houphouët-Boigny. It hosts football, rugby and athletics, and is home to ASEC Mimosas and the Ivory Coast national football team.
The stadium has hosted many events, including the Africa Cup of Nations, international friendlies and concerts. Amnesty International’s Human Rights Now! concert was held there in 1988, and Chris Brown performed in 2012. It has seen tragic stampedes in 2009 (19 killed) and 2013 (61 killed).
Renovations occurred in 2009 and 2017, with a major upgrade from 2020 to 2023 by Mota-Engil that added a full roof and increased capacity to 33,000. The venue reopened on 15 October 2023 with Ivory Coast drawing 1–1 against Morocco and it is a key stadium for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Facilities include stands painted in national colors, a media room, anti-doping facilities, VIP areas, dressing rooms, a large video screen, and a well‑maintained grass field.
