FK Sveikata Kybartai
FK Sveikata, full name Futbolo klubas “Sveikata”, is a Lithuanian football club from Kybartai in Vilkaviškis District. Founded in 1919, it is the oldest active football club in Lithuania. The team currently plays in II Lyga, the third tier of Lithuanian football, in the Southern Zone, and their colors are blue and red.
Home matches are held at Kybartai Stadium, which has about 500 seats. The club’s chairman is Nerijus Demenius and the manager is Gabrielius Zagurskas.
History highlights:
- The club began as FK Banga Kybartai in 1919 and was renamed FK Sveikata Kybartai in 1920.
- In 1949 it joined the republican sports union “Žalgiris”; from 1952 it was renamed GKS for sponsorship.
- During the Soviet era the club spent many years in the top division, with periods of relegation and promotion.
- In 1990 it was relegated to the First League and in 1993 to the Second League.
- In 2019 the club aimed to obtain a licence for Pirma lyga (the second tier) and joined the Club of Pioneers.
- The name Sveikata means health; the club first used the name in 1920, and after several changes the current form was adopted in 1973.
Recent seasons see Sveikata competing in the II Lyga Southern Zone.
