Eurynomos (daemon)

Eurynomos was a minor demon of the Greek underworld who was said to eat the flesh of corpses. The main description comes from Pausanias, who wrote about a painting of Hades by Polygnotus at Delphi. In the painting, Eurynomos is one of the demons in Hades who eats all the flesh from the dead, leaving only bones. He is shown as blue‑black in color, with teeth bared, sitting, and a vultureskin underneath him. Some scholars linked him to other figures, such as Thanatos, the god of death, or a daimon of decay, but in most ancient texts he is not mentioned.
