Errol Spence Jr. is an American professional boxer nicknamed “The Truth.” He was born on March 3, 1990, on Long Island, New York, and grew up in the Dallas, Texas area. He is 5 ft 9 in tall, with a 72-inch reach, and fights with a southpaw stance. His pro record stands at 28 wins (22 by knockout) and 1 loss in 29 bouts.

As an amateur, Spence won multiple national welterweight titles, including the Golden Gloves in 2009, and represented the United States at the 2012 Olympics, reaching the quarterfinals. He turned pro in 2012 and quickly built a winning streak with several knockouts.

Spence became a world welterweight champion, holding three major belts at once from 2017 to 2023: IBF, WBC, and WBA (Super). He captured the IBF title in 2017 by defeating Kell Brook in Sheffield. He later unified the division with wins over Lamont Peterson (2018) and Mikey Garcia (2019). In 2019 he defeated Shawn Porter in a unification bout, and in 2022 he defeated Yordenis Ugas to unify even more belts.

In 2023, Spence challenged Terence Crawford for the undisputed welterweight championship but was beaten by Crawford, who stopped him in the 9th round. By then, Crawford had become the first undisputed welterweight champion in the four-belt era.

Outside the ring, Spence has faced several car accidents. In 2019 he survived a high-speed single-vehicle crash in Dallas and was charged with a DWI. He was involved in additional crashes in 2020 and 2022, with mostly minor injuries. He is a father of two daughters and a son and has Jamaican and African-American heritage.

In 2025, Spence and his longtime trainer Derrick James split over compensation. There has been talk of future big fights, including possible matchups with other top welterweights.
