Erebia pandrose
Erebia pandrose, the dewy ringlet, is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. It lives in Arctic northern Europe and in mountain ranges across Europe (the Pyrenees, Alps, Apennines, Carpathians) and reaches the Urals, Altai and Sayan mountains, down to Mongolia. The wingspan is 30–38 mm. The forewing upperside is brown with an orange band after the middle and a row of small black eye-like spots; the hindwing upperside has a line of orange spots each with a black center. The underside of the forewings is copper orange with eye spots, and the hindwings underside is beige-grey and brown with a lighter broad band. The larva is grass-green and feeds on grasses such as Festuca, Poa and Sesleria. It overwinters as a pupa on the ground, with the front part green and the abdomen brown. Adults fly from June to August, depending on altitude (in the Alps, from the tree line up to the snow). It is shy and easy to miss. There is one generation per year.
