Columella aspera is a very small land snail that breathes air. Its shell is about 2.0–2.5 mm long and 1.3–1.4 mm wide, with 4–5 whorls and a spire that tapers to a point. The opening has no teeth. The shell color is dark grey-brown or horny brown, and the surface is dull with fine, regular ridges. It is a little more coarsely sculptured than the similar Columella edentula. It belongs to the family Truncatellinidae, genus Columella, and occurs in several countries and islands.
