Episcepsis venata

Episcepsis venata is a moth in the family Erebidae. It was first described by Arthur Butler in 1877 and is found in Mexico and the Amazon region.

What it looks like:
- Wings: The forewings are mostly see-through (hyaline) with dark brown at the apex, base, outer angle, margins, and a dark spot near the middle. The hindwings are hyaline white with a broad black border along the outer edge.
- Body: Dark brown with white spots on the front. The back of the head and the sides of the collar have carmine spots. The abdomen shows a blue sheen with metallic green at the end. The underside of the collar has white spots. Legs are white underneath, with the first pair’s trochanters rose red. The ventral side is white in the center and grey-brown at the sides, with a row of small reddish-yellow spots. Genitalia are yellow.

Size:
- Wingspan is about 2.8 cm (roughly 1.1 inches).
