The Endellion String Quartet was a British string quartet named after St Endellion in Cornwall. It was formed in 1979. In 1986, Ralph de Souza joined as second violin, replacing Louise Williams. The quartet became the quartet-in-residence at Cambridge University in 1992 and regularly performed at Wigmore Hall. They commissioned new works from composers such as Sally Beamish, Prach Boondiskulchok, Jonathan Dove, and Giles Swayne. They won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s 1996 award for Best Chamber Ensemble. Their commercial recordings included a Beethoven album for Warner Classics and Jazz. The group planned a farewell season for 2019–2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the final concerts. In February 2021, they announced they would not reschedule and disbanded with immediate effect.
