Elizabeth Haywood
Elizabeth Haywood, Baroness Hain, is a Welsh businesswoman and public servant. She was the director of CBI Wales from 1994 to 2000 and was the first Welsh Woman of the Year in 1994. She studied at Swansea University and Cardiff University.
Her career began at the Welsh Development Agency, and she has worked in government, the third sector, and private companies. In the early 1980s she spent time with the secretariat of the European Parliament. She later led CBI Wales, was Communications Director of the Association of Train Operating Companies (2000–2001), and directed the South East Wales Economic Forum (2010–2013).
In 2008 she started a business partnership, Haywood Hain, with her husband, Peter Hain. She has held board roles at the Wales Millennium Centre, The Hendre Group, and Leonard Cheshire Disability. She has helped develop City Deal proposals for Cardiff and Swansea and led a Welsh government panel on this work.
She is active in diversity on company boards as a member of The 30% Club, and works on sustainability and natural resources. She is a non-executive director of Natural Resources Wales and SP Energy Networks. Since 2020 she has chaired the Independent Remuneration Board of the Senedd.
