Văleni-Dâmbovița
Văleni-Dâmbovița is a commune in Dâmbovița County, Muntenia, Romania. It has two villages, Văleni-Dâmbovița (the commune center) and Mesteacăn. The population was 2,420 in 2021. The area is about 27.9 square kilometers and the land is hilly, in the foothills of the Southern Carpathians along the Mușcel river. It sits in the northwestern corner of the county, about 44 kilometers from Târgoviște, near the border with Argeș County. The DJ723 road runs through the area, connecting the Dâmbovița valley with the Argeș valley and linking DN72A with DN73D.
Historically, at the end of the 19th century Văleni was part of plasa Argeșel in Muscel County and included Lunca, Plopișoru, Văleni and Vrăbiești, with 1,781 inhabitants. By 1925 the commune had 2,460 people and consisted only of Văleni village. Because there was another Văleni in the county, the commune was renamed Văleni-Dâmbovița in 1931, by which time it also included the village of Mesteacăn.
