ESPN Deportes Radio
ESPN Deportes Radio was ESPN’s Spanish-language sports radio network in the United States. It launched on October 5, 2005, and was owned by ESPN, Inc. (Disney 80% and Hearst 20%). The network offered call-in and talk shows about a wide range of sports, with a special focus on soccer. It had stations in 15 states and was also heard in Puerto Rico and northern Mexico, as well as nationwide on SiriusXM Channel 149. The flagship station was WMYM in Miami.
Prominent hosts included Jorge Ramos and many others. On September 8, 2019, ESPN Deportes Radio shut down, citing changing listener habits toward digital platforms and the costs of running a full-time network. Disney planned to move some programming to podcasts, and about 10 full-time and 25 part-time employees were laid off. After the closure, most stations joined rivals TUDN Radio or Unanimo Deportes (founded by ESPN Deportes alumni and based at WMYM). WEPN in New York City continued carrying ESPN Radio national programs as a pass-through for overflow content.
States with ESPN Deportes Radio coverage (before shutdown): Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, Oklahoma, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Washington.
