Barringtonia pendula
Barringtonia pendula is a tree in the Lecythidaceae family. It can grow up to 47 meters tall and have a trunk up to 90 centimeters in diameter. The bark is reddish brown. The fruits are oval or banana-shaped, up to 15 cm long. The name pendula comes from Latin for “dangling,” referring to its hanging inflorescences. It grows in dipterocarp forests from sea level to about 1,200 meters in altitude. It is found in China, Burma, Thailand, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, and Borneo. The tree has also been known by several other names, including Barringtonia musiformis, Barringtonia yunnanensis, Careya pendula, and Doxomma pendulum.
