Doug Graham is a fictional character on the Australian drama Winners & Losers, played by Tom Wren. He first appears in the pilot “Covert Aggression in Netball” on 22 March 2011 and stays a regular character until 8 September 2015.

Doug is a hospital registrar who works in Emergency Medicine. He’s shown as caring, principled, and quietly moral, always ready to help others. He grows up after losing his parents in a house fire when he was five and is raised by his grandmother, which helps shape his patient, loyal nature. On screen he’s best friends with Sophie Wong, and he secretly loves her, creating a long-running “will they, won’t they” dynamic.

Romantic storylines include Bec Gilbert and Carla Hughes, alongside his close connection with Sophie. With Bec, Doug fathers Harrison Graham after Bec becomes pregnant during their relationship. Sophie also becomes pregnant, but she has an abortion, while Carla becomes pregnant later but suffers a miscarriage. He and Sophie eventually begin a relationship, only for things to become complicated as Doug also dates Bec. A notable storyline involves the euthanasia debate around Cat Johnson, which Doug tackles as a physician who is opposed to ending a life.

Doug’s relationship with Sophie helps deepen her character, and in 2013 Carla joins the picture as a new love interest. Doug and Carla marry after a spontaneous engagement party, a development that creates tension with Sophie. The show also explores Doug’s personal lows, including a serious car accident with Bec and Matt that signals a darker turn for the series.

Actor Tom Wren received a nomination for Most Popular New Talent at the 2012 Logie Awards for his portrayal. Critics often called Doug the “resident nice guy,” though some commentators felt he was underused early on. Season two gave him more material and allowed his character to be more fully developed, especially through his evolving relationship with Sophie and his growing bond with Bec and Carla.
