Departmental Council of Ain

The Departmental Council of Ain is the elected body that governs the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It has 46 councillors from 23 cantons and meets in Bourg-en-Bresse, the department’s capital. The president is Jean Deguerry, who has led the council since 7 October 2017, and he is helped by 11 vice-presidents, each with specific responsibilities.

In 2021 the council’s budget was 618.2 million euros, up from 572 million euros in 2015.

The council is divided into two main political groups: L'Ain de toutes nos forces (LR 22 seats, DVD 14 seats, UDI 6 seats) and L'Ain pour tous - écologie et solidarité (PS 3 seats, DVG 1 seat).
