Den Beste Sykkel
Den Beste Sykkel (DBS) is a Norwegian bicycle brand made by Jonas Øglænd AS in Sandnes, Norway. It was started in 1892 by Jonas Øglænd and began as Øglænd Cyklelager, acting as an agent for the German Hengstberg and later the American The World. Bicycles were assembled in Norway, and some were sold under the Fram and Viking names. In 1906 the company began making bicycles in its own factory. The brand name Den Beste Sykkel, meaning “the best bicycle,” was adopted in 1932 after a contest won by 12-year-old Knut Johansen. The company expanded and began exporting in 1949. Later, DBS faced competition from cheap bikes from China and the Far East. DBS was sold to Monark in 1989 and, after several mergers, became part of Cycleurope AB in 1996, a Swedish company that owns brands like Monark, Crescent, Peugeot, Cyclepro and Bianchi.
