The 51st Delaware General Assembly met in Dover from January 2, 1827 to January 1, 1828. It was the state’s lawmaking body, made up of the Delaware Senate and the Delaware House of Representatives. Elections were held on the first Tuesday in October, and terms started on the first Tuesday in January. The assembly convened two weeks before Governor Charles Polk Jr. began his term.

Seats were fixed: each of the three counties had 3 senators and 7 representatives, regardless of population. Both chambers had Federalist majorities. Senators served three-year terms, with one third of seats up for election each year. Representatives served one-year terms.
