DD Returns
DD Returns is a 2023 Tamil-language comedy-horror film directed by S. Prem Anand in his debut. It’s produced by C. Ramesh Kumar under RK Entertainment. The movie stars Santhanam and Surbhi, with Redin Kingsley, Maaran, and Pradeep Rawat in supporting roles. It is a stand-alone sequel to Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 and the third film in the Dhilluku Dhuddu series. The music is by OfRo, with cinematography by Dipak Kumar Padhy and editing by N. B. Srikanth. The film released in cinemas on 28 July 2023 and runs 125 minutes.
Plot: A group of friends hides a bag of money and jewels in a haunted bungalow to dodge the police. When they return to retrieve it, a ghost forces them to play a survival game.
Production notes: The project began in 2019 as part of the Dhilluku Dhuddu series and was originally planned as a 3D film directed by Rambhala. In 2022, Prem Anand took over as director after creative differences, marking his second collaboration with Santhanam. Filming took place in Chennai and Pondicherry, with a song shot in Sri Lanka, and wrapped by December 2022. The title DD Returns was announced in April 2023. The soundtrack, released in 2023, was composed by OfRo under Think Music.
Release and reception: DD Returns opened in cinemas on 28 July 2023. It later streamed on ZEE5 starting 1 September 2023. Dubbing rights for Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada were sold to Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited. The film received positive notices from critics; The Times of India gave it 3.5/5, calling it a fun, clean weekend entertainer, while ABP Live Tamil praised Santhanam’s performance.
Alternate title: The film is also sometimes referred to as Dare Demons Returns in expanded form.
