Computer Research Corporation
Computer Research Corporation (CRC) was an early maker of minicomputers. It was founded on July 16, 1950, by Floyd Steele, Donald Eckdahl, Hrant (Harold) Sarkinssian, Richard E. Sprague, and Irving S. Reed. Except for Reed, the founders had helped design the MADDIDA, a special-purpose computer built for Northrop from 1946 to 1949. The MADDIDA team believed that a problem-oriented language could let a general-purpose computer function like a differential analyzer, so they left Northrop in 1950 to form CRC and pursue general-purpose computers. CRC then developed the Cadac, an early minicomputer. In February 1953, CRC was sold to National Cash Register (NCR), helping NCR enter the digital computing business.
