Coat of arms of Sarawak
Coat of arms of Sarawak
The present coat of arms, adopted in 1988, is based on the second state coat granted in 1973. The shield shows the wing-spread Kenyalang (rhinoceros hornbill) with the Sarawak state flag as its background. The hornbill’s wings have 13 feathers, symbolizing Malaysia’s 13 states. Two hibiscus branches flank the shield, representing Malaysia’s national flower. The hornbill carries two scrolls: the smaller reads “Sarawak” and the larger reads “Bersatu, Berusaha, Berbakti” (Unity, Effort, Service).
