Circular Quay ferry wharf
Circular Quay ferry wharf is a cluster of five double‑sided wharves (2–6) at Circular Quay in Sydney Cove. It’s the main hub for Sydney Harbour ferries and sits right next to Circular Quay railway station, where you can connect to Sydney Trains.
What you’ll find there
- Wharves: Wharves 3 to 5 are used by Sydney Ferries. Wharf 2 Side B is for Sydney Ferries, while Wharf 2 A is used by the Manly Fast Ferry. Wharf 6 is used by other operators, including Captain Cook Cruises.
- Sides and extras: On the eastern side near Bennelong Apartments is the Eastern Pontoon for charter boats. On the western side are the Commissioners Steps and Harbour Masters Steps for water taxis and charter boats.
- History of the site: In the 1960s, hydrofoils served the Manly route from a pontoon attached to wharf 2. That pontoon was removed in 1991 when JetCats arrived, and the Manly Fast Ferry service began in 2009.
- Wharf 3 details: Wharf 3 was rebuilt in the 1980s for Freshwater class ferries and includes a mezzanine level and an office for Transdev Sydney Ferries. It’s built higher to handle larger ferries, so only Manly ferries use it.
- Other wharves: Wharves 2 West, 4 and 5 are used interchangeably by Sydney Ferries.
Connections
- The wharf area is adjacent to Circular Quay railway station, served by Sydney Trains on the T2, T3 and T8 lines.
- South of the station is the Alfred Street bus terminus. Transdev John Holland bus routes start there, and two Big Bus Tours run from George Street just north of Alfred Street.
- The L2 and L3 Sydney Light Rail terminus is west of the bus terminus, still on Alfred Street.
