Chogye Joo clan (Korean: 초계 주씨; Hanja: 草溪 周氏) is a Korean clan with its origin in Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang Province. As of 2000, about 6,665 members belonged to the clan. The founder was Joo Hwang, a scholar of the Hanlin Academy in the Tang dynasty, who became naturalized in Silla during the 11th year of King Hyogong’s reign. The Chogye Joo clan, along with Neungju Joo, Sangju Joo, Cheonan Joo, and Chorwon Joo, came from Joo Yi, who was also naturalized in Silla from the Tang dynasty.
