Chimera (novel series)
Chimera (Japanese: Kimaira) is a Japanese novel series by Baku Yumemakura. It ran from 1982 to 2002 and was published in 16 bunkobon volumes, with cover art by Yoshitaka Amano. It was later reissued as 8 tankōbon volumes, again with Amano’s illustrations, by Asahi Sonorama.
A new edition began in 2008 from Asahi Shimbun Publications with covers by Katsuya Terada. Kadokawa Shoten published a separate edition starting in 2013, featuring covers by Shirow Miwa.
An anime film adaptation directed by Mamoru Oshii is in development. Yumemakura’s agency announced the adaptation on March 5, 2018, and a note in the 13th volume confirmed it will be an anime film, though Oshii’s exact role wasn’t specified at that time. Comic Natalie later reported that Oshii would serve as director.
