Chern Medal
The Chern Medal is an international prize that honors lifelong achievement in mathematics. It is awarded at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) every four years in a different city. The award is presented by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) and the Chern Medal Foundation (CMF). It is named after Shiing-Shen Chern. The first award was given in 2010 at the ICM in Hyderabad, India. Each winner receives a medal with Chern’s likeness, $250,000 in cash, and the option to donate up to $250,000 to organizations that support mathematical research, education, or outreach.
