Charles Reese Gibson (born June 21, 1842 in Oakville, Alabama) was an American judge and politician who served as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives during the 18th Legislature. He left Cumberland School of Law when the Civil War began to join the 16th Alabama Regiment, rising to the rank of sergeant major. He surrendered at the Battle of Decatur in 1865 as part of Warren's Battalion. After the war, he was licensed to practice law in Moulton, Alabama, and moved to Waxahachie, Texas in 1866. He served as district and county clerk for Ellis County from 1869 to 1873. Gibson was elected to the Texas Legislature in 1878, representing Waxahachie in the 16th, 17th, and 18th Legislatures as a Democrat, and he served as Speaker in 1883. He also founded two newspapers, the Waxahachie Enterprise and the Ellis County News.
