Charles L. Bartlett (Georgia politician)
Charles Lafayette Bartlett (January 31, 1853 – April 21, 1938) was an American lawyer and Democratic politician from Georgia. Born in Monticello, he earned a BA from the University of Georgia in 1870, studied law at the University of Virginia, and earned his LL.B from UGA School of Law in 1872. He began practicing law in Monticello, moved to Macon in 1875, and served as solicitor general for the Macon circuit (1877–1881).
Bartlett was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives (1882–1885) and the Georgia Senate (1888–1889), and he was city attorney of Macon (1887–1892). He became a Macon circuit superior court judge (1892–1894) before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia's 6th district, serving March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1915. After leaving Congress, he returned to Macon to practice law and work in banking. He died in Macon in 1938 and is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery.
