2016–17 Texas–Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball team
The 2016–17 Texas–Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball team represented the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I season. Led by first-year head coach Lew Hill, the Vaqueros played their home games at the UTRGV Fieldhouse as part of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). They won the Emerald Coast Classic Pool B title and finished the regular season 10–22 overall, 2–12 in WAC play, placing seventh in the conference. Because Grand Canyon was ineligible for postseason play, UTRGV received the No. 6 seed in the WAC tournament but lost in the quarterfinals to UMKC. The previous season (2015–16) ended 8–22 overall, with a 4–10 mark in the WAC; Dan Hipsher was fired in March 2016 and Lew Hill was hired as head coach on March 31, 2016.
