Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter (CWES), now operating as Fear Is Not Love (FNL) Society, helps people in Calgary, Alberta who experience domestic violence and abuse. It provides a safe place to stay, crisis support, and programs that aim to prevent violence.

History and purpose
Established in 1974 in Calgary’s Beltline area, CWES began as a grassroots effort to assist abused women. It has grown into a full domestic violence service agency that offers crisis treatment, intervention, and prevention programs.

What they offer
- Each year, more than 16,500 Calgarians use their programs.
- 24-hour Family Violence Helpline for crisis support and connections to services.
- Crisis intervention and counseling, available in the shelter or in the community.
- Secure shelter for women and, where needed, for women with children.
- Individual and group counseling for up to a year.
- Help accessing resources to stay safe and counseling/therapy for children and youth.

Prevention programs
- Men’s Counselling Service for abusive men.
- Violence reduction programs for high school students and for older women in abusive relationships.
- Court programs and education programs for workplaces and the broader community.

Funding
The organization is funded by the City of Calgary and Area CFSA, the United Way of Canada, Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), the Alberta Mental Health Board, and various donors.

Name change
In 2022, the organization began using the name Fear Is Not Love to reflect a broader, more diverse population of people it serves.
