Cajanus (family)

The Cajanus family is an old Finnish priestly lineage that appeared in the late Middle Ages. They produced many clergymen, government officials, and scholars. Count Per Brahe appointed the family’s founder, Anders Eriksson (Hjerta), as a local bailiff of Kajaani. His sons became pastors in nearby parishes, and the family later took a Latinized surname derived from Kajaani. The family includes numerous clergymen, officials, and academics from Finland.
